Sketchbook Saturday – 15/08/22

sketchcardEvening everypeoples, hope your weekend has been off to a good start. Mine was at least halfway productive, and after yesterday it felt really good not to have to get up before the sun did.

As I’m sure you can tell from the above statement, not to mention the lack of Elements of Eve updates this week, I have been utterly swamped with college work that is pulling all of my energy away like a black hole. But fortunately, all the energy I put into my sketchbooks did its job years ago, so that makes these updates relatively painless.

This week’s sketches are from a couple of years ago as part of a talent search contest held by Top Cow Comics. The submissions had to consist of eight pages drawn according to one of their older scripts. I never managed to finish my submission in time, but I still had fun with it; the sketches below are my attempts to nail down the looks of Top Cow’s characters while still keeping an element of my own style.

As always, these sketches will be in the gallery section along with all the previous weeks’ uploads.

Ciao for now.

Sketchbook Saturday – 15/08/15

sketchcardA very late good evening to you all, everypeoples. I would have been uploading earlier, but a double bill of Divergent films and the most intense game of Magic: The Gathering I’ve played in a long time kept me rather distracted.

It is still technically Saturday though, so here’s three more sketches to add to the collection. This is a rather random assortment with varying degrees of interesting-ness, I just pulled them out of the folder and threw them in the scanner.

As always, these will be in the gallery on the portfolio tab along with the rest, so go check them out there to see their full descriptions, and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Ciao for now.

Sketchbook Saturday – 15/08/08

sketchcardGood Saturday evening everypeoples, the weekend is in full swing, and it’s time to add more doodles to the gallery.

Going with something slightly different this time; rather than uploading old sketches, these ones are stuff I’ve been doodling over this past week. We’ve been doing storyboard work in class and a lot of emphasis is being put on gesture poses for dramatic effect, so I wanted to keep in practice to keep my momentum going.

So here I present to you Adventures in Gesture, with Kaine Parker the Scarlet Spider! (Because he’s basically the same as Spider-Man, but with a much simpler costume, so it goes quicker.)

These sketches will also be in the gallery on the portfolio tab, along with all the previous sketchbook entries. Have a good weekend everybody!

Ciao for now.

Sketchbook Saturday – 15/08/01

sketchcardHey everypeoples, welcome to the month of August, and I hope your Saturday has been treating you well so far

Naturally, since I am attempting to keep to a routine and make it work for me like a responsible person, Saturday also means more excerpts from my old sketchbooks. You may notice a bit of a “heroic” theme that leans towards the “super” side of things; what can I say, I’m a guy of simple tastes.

So with that, here’s three superheroic sketches for you.

These are now part of a gallery on the Portfolio tab, along with last week’s sketches if you missed them, and all subsequent Saturday posts will be included there also. Have a good weekend everybody.

Ciao for now.

Sketchbook Saturday – 15/07/25

sketchcardHello everypeoples, or at least everyone who is at home on Saturday night, like me. For those of you who are here rather than out doing things you may regret in the morning, allow me to attempt to be interesting.

It is no secret that if you want to do good pieces of art, you have to do ten times as many bad pieces of art, and about the same amount of mediocre ones. To that end, sketchbooks are the training ground of any artist, the equivalent of a bodybuilder having a private gym room in his house. Over the past seven years or so, since I started to take my art seriously, I’ve accumulated a pile of sketchbooks that nearly reaches my knees, and that’s not even counting all the loose pages that flitted about in between or got thrown out long ago. So I figured, why let all that artwork go to waste?

To that end, I’ll be posting a few of my favourite sketches from the past every Saturday, the ones that were either artworks that never got completed, or old ideas that I developed/ignored/completely forgot. I won’t be uploading everything (most are just random doodles), and I won’t be going too far back (anything before 2010 I wouldn’t dare show anyone), but I hope what I do show will be of interest.

With that in mind, here’s the first three:

I’ll get a gallery up for these by next week, but that’s all for tonight.

Ciao for now.
